Art Conservator was founded in 2006: its full-color photography, innovative features, and accessible articles illustrate the conservation process and describe practical and theoretical issues facing the preservation of heritage objects of all cultures. Each installment also contains a Technical Bulletin prepared by one of our staff conservators, which delves in-depth into a topic of importance to museum professionals and others working with cultural objects.

After the Center received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 2019, Maggie Barkovic, Department Head of Paintings Conservation, was named Editor and Art Director of Art Conservator. In 2020, she rebranded the publication and transformed the format to an online, digital platform. The new digital platform promotes accessibility to learning about conservation through an immersive learning experience that integrates multimedia.
