ART CONSERVATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Education is central to the mission of the Williamstown + Atlanta Art Conservation Centers. We train the next generation of conservators through paid internships at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as paid post-graduate fellowships.

Opportunities include:

    • Pre-program internship: For individuals with an undergraduate degree who wish to go on to study conservation at the graduate level, this program provides the necessary experience and hours required for graduate admission. Previous experience or academic background in the fine arts, art history, or the sciences is recommended.

    • Third-year internship & Second-year summer internship: For individuals who have completed two years of graduate study and require the third-year practicum of supervised experience, or a summer internship before the third-year practicum, in order to earn their degrees. This experience is tailored to the student’s chosen specialization.

    • Post graduate fellowship: For individuals with a graduate degree in conservation seeking advanced experience in their specialty. When available, fellowships in each department are tailored to both the individual’s interests and experience.

While Williamstown + Atlanta Art Conservation Centers hire interns and fellows, there are no fixed number of positions offered – it varies by year, location, and discipline and is dependent on workflow and staffing. There are some years when no interns or fellows are placed.

To be considered for an internship or fellowship please complete the application form by April 1st for consideration for opportunities this Summer or Fall.

If positions are available qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview in early May.

Please re-apply for the internship each year you remain interested. Applications are not retained year over year.

Post-graduate positions are advertised on our employment page. However, if none are listed please use the application form to apply.
