PHOTOGRAPHY

WACC provides consultation and treatment on all types of historic and contemporary photographic and photomechanical materials.

Conservators treat images derived from all common photographic processes, including:

  • salt, gum, albumen, cyanotype, and other historic processes
  • daguerreotypes, tintypes, and other cased images
  • platinum and silver gelatin prints
  • chromogenic color
  • various types of digital prints
  • photographic negatives on glass, acetate, and nitrate supports

The department also provides conservation matting and framing, including reversible mounting of oversized photographs. In addition, conservators can train museum staff on identification of photographic materials as well as safe handling, housing, and storage procedures.
